Dearest Trade in South West Ever at Sedgemoor 9th July 2011


gthGreenslade Taylor Hunt hosted a store cattle trade at Sedgemoor which was described by many as the dearest ever seen in the South West. Twelve to fifteen month pure bred Limousin feeding bulls and heifers hit £1025 and £1035 respectively for Mr R Coate of Broomfield. Store cattle sold to £1170 for steers and £1080 for heifers, when 42 cattle sold over £1000. 585 store cattle levelled at £715.

The Special Catalogued Monthly Sale of 198 Sucklers included a special entry of Pedigree British Blues from the Kernow Tresawle herd of Ross Withers, which topped at £2500 for Kernow Tresawle Frankie (ET), a 14 month old heifer by the reknown sire Bluegrass Cyclone and out of the 3500gns dam Balzer Black Beauty. Frankie’s breeding boasts the prefixes of Bringlee and Wood Lane along with the exceptional Ridge Dean Another Bluey (ET). This depth of bloodline shone throughout when Frankie’s full ET sisters Kernow Tresawle Floss sold at £2350 and Kernow Tresawle Flumpett close behind at £1850.

A run of ET bulls again by Cyclone and out of the 8500gns dam Balzer Black Magic topped at £1900 for ten month old Kernow Tresawle Felix (ET) who weighed in at 480kgs. Commercial entries also from Ross Withers set the bidding alight at £1750 for a British Blue x Blonde x Limousin heifer by Dafyd D’Ochain and incalf to Kernow Tresawle Dinky and the exceptional conformation incalf Limousin x British Blue heifer, winner of many Championships and Fatstock shows saw bids flying to £1400, finding her new home across the border in Wales.

Commercial sucklers sold to £1520 for a 2003 Limousin cross cow with May born steer calf at foot.

On the same day 1061 grazing ewes sold to £168 and averaged £89; 269 calves sold to £395 and averaged £161. 57 dairy cattle sold to £2000 and averaged £1431.
