Kirkby Stephen Suckled Calves
On Monday 2nd November 2009 Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their
prize show & sale of suckled calves at Kirkby Stephen Mart. The pre sale
show was kindly sponsored by J G Animal Health, Dugdale Nutrition, Novartis
Animal Health, North West Limousin Breeders Club, British Blue Cattle Society
and SAI Global and was most ably judged by Mr Alan Barnett, The Brinns.

The championship was awarded to a superb British Blue x heifer consigned
by Messrs H R Hayton, & Son, Asby Grange the heifer later sold for
£1900 to the judge. Standing in reserve was the Limousin Champion a
magnificent heifer consigned by Messrs D & C E Marston, Easegill Head,
the heifer sold for £2,300 to Mrs Blyth, Norwich.
Trade throughout was exceptional with averages showing a rise on the year
as Bullocks averaged £749 (+£192) and heifers averaged £649
(+£145) with an overall average of £704.
Cast cows were forward in good numbers, prices where in line with national
averages.
