Central British Blue ClubSecond Annual Calf Show - Thursday, 19th February 2009The Central British Blue Club staged their Second Annual Pedigree and Commercial calf show on Thursday, 19th February 2009 at Winslow Foscote Market run by Thame Farmers Auction Mart. Almost all of the 32 entries were forward for judging with a even number for both commercial and pedigree classes and a superb number of young handlers needing the class to be split into Junior and Senior handlers. The Club would like to thank all of their sponsors for donating prize money for all of the classes, Thame Farmers Auction Mart for the venue, the society for providing the rosettes, Norbreck Genetics and AE Neachell for semen for the Champion and Reserve Champion pedigrees and also T & A Trailers for the perpetual trophy to be presented at a forthcoming dinner to be organised shortly. Our judges Jonathan Bellas (Croftends Herd) and Richard Davis had a difficult task in judging all classes due to the tremendous show of quality calves throughout, with the ring being full to capacity and many spectators to also lend their support to our exhibitors.
The male championship and reserve was awarded to Adam Neachell (Cromwell herd) with his January 2008 born homebred bull Cromwell Doop Doop by Dafydd D’Ochain out of the famous show cow Ridge Dean Rita.
The female and overall championship was awarded to David Plested with his May 2008 born homebred heifer Chalford Manor Destiny daughter of Brookfield Washington and High Hedleyhope Umbra. David Plested was also awarded Champion and Reserve in the commercial section.
The entries for the young handler classes doubled on the morning of the show ensuring that our Junior and Senior class winners would go head to head for Champion, in some cases the animals were bigger than the handler, but each was shown with the utmost professionalism and attention to detail, it was evident they had all been practicing very hard.
Finally, our judges awarded prizes to Charlotte Deverall (Senior) and Sam Morton (Junior), with overall champion being Sam Morton. There was also an opportunity to sell stock at the Sale of Potential Show Cattle, with L Richardson selling stock to £880 and AJ & LM Geary to £800.
